New Avatar of Tata Sumo
Tata Motors relaunched its decade old utility vehicle Sumo in its new avatar, Sumo Grande targeting customers keen on having the feel of an SUV in a mass carrier. Showcased at the Auto Expo in January, Tata Motors recently launched its decade-old utility vehicle Sumo in its new avatar, Sumo Grande. The company has tried to give the vehicle the look and feel of an SUV and a sedan, primarily targeting customers keen on having the feel of an SUV in a mass carrier. Since its launch in 1994, the Sumo became the fastest vehicle to sell 100,000 units, even beating the Maruti 800 and Zen. With the introduction of this new variant, Tata Motors is looking at sales between 2.35-2.38 lakh vehicles in the next financial year as compared to 2.18 lakh units in the utility vehicles segment.
The engine and driveline for the Sumo Grande have been derived from the Safari (2.2 L direct injection common rail DICOR engine), fitted with a variable geometry turbocharger that creates a better blend of performance and fuel efficiency. The company has introduced a host of features to ensure better driveability, manoeuvrability and fuel efficiency of the vehicle. Sumo Grande is available in three variants Lx, Ex and Gx and comes with two seating configurations of 6+1 and 7+1. The vehicle has been priced in the range of Rs 6.54-7.49 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and comes with an enhanced warranty of two years or 75000 kilometres (whichever is earlier). An additional two years warranty can be availed through the extended warranty option.
