In Hinduism, Surya is the chief solar deity.Surya Workship is done at the sunset called "Surya Namaskara"which is associated with twleve yogic postures & 12 Sacred Mantras.Some Hindus consider that 12 yogic postures represents one solar year.Gayathri Mantra is also associated with Lord Surya.
Aditya Hridyam is the prayer addressed to lord surya which itself is the part of the great epic ramayana.Ramayana says that Lord Rama was exhausted in the battle with Ravana.Lord Rama was overcome by doubt of his prowess on the battlefield.At that time sage Agastya advised him to pray Lord Surya by hymn "Aditya Hridayam" to grant him strength to have victory over Evil forces.Sage Agastya teached it to him.Lord Rama receited it thrice and got rejuvenated.In the subsequent war Rama vanquished ravana & evil Forces. Adity Hridyam is normally chanted thrice in the morning facing the rising sun.It's effects are limitless.some are - It is the solution to any problem & one can attain fulfilment of their desire. - It is chanted to avoid the bad-effects of inharmonious planetary influences. - Problems with the eye sight & other diseases are cured by chanting this. - Pregnant women recite Aditya Hyidyam to get a brilliant child. - Young men and women obtain a worthy spouse by chanting this. Doing Surya Namaskaram also help to build stamina and fight against most diseases. To start doing the Surya Namaskaram.
1. One should stand on a ground not on a grass or with any foot wear 2. Face the sun early in the morning with no glasses or specs on your eye 3. Start glaring the sun for just few minutes (1-2) to start with every day for 3 or 4 days and start reciting the sloka (Adiya Hridyam) 4. Increase the amount of time you are glaring slowly after that every day. The maximum you can glare is about 15 minutes a day.
